The Character and Characterization in the Stories of Akram Osman

Abstract

Storytelling became popular in contemporary Persian literature, and writers, through composing their stories, have left behind a wealth of literary works. Among the renowned Afghan storytellers is Dr. Akram Osman, who enriched the country’s fictional literature by writing his stories in colloquial language. Akram Osman introduces the characters in his stories to readers using various methods: direct description, indirect portrayal through scenes and character actions, and through dialogue between characters.This article analyzes some of Akram Osman's stories. To provide information about different aspects of storytelling and to examine his stories, scientific books and articles were consulted. Therefore, the research method used in this article is library-based. The findings of this research concerning the characters in Akram Osman's stories are as follows: individual characters, static characters, dynamic characters, typical or archetypal characters, conventional characters, simple characters, complex characters, and ordinary characters have been selected to complete the plots of the stories.
