Investigating the Rule of Grape Production in Strengthening the Enonomy of Farmer`s Families (Case Study: Shirin Tagab District, Faryab Province)

Abstract

Agriculture and horticulture, as key pillars of Afghanistan’s economy, play a significant role in improving the livelihoods of farmers’ families. This study, entitled “Investigating the Role of Grape Production in Strengthening the Economy of Farmers’ Families,” was conducted as a case study in Shirin Tagab District of Faryab Province. The main objective of this research is to assess the impact of grape production on the economic status of farming households. The significance of this study lies in its potential to provide evidence-based insights for policymakers and supporting institutions to promote agricultural development and enhance farmers’ livelihoods. Data were collected using a survey method, and 100 questionnaires were distributed among residents of Shirin Tagab District, Faryab Province. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS (version 24) and a logistic regression model. The findings reveal a positive and statistically significant relationship between the independent variable (grape production) and the dependent variable (household economy), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.693. These results indicate that grape production has a substantial impact on improving the economic conditions of farmers’ families in the study area. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the government and relevant institutions support horticulture and grape production in rural areas—particularly in Shirin Tagab District—through the provision of agricultural inputs, technical training, and improved access to markets. Such measures can contribute to the sustainable improvement of farmers’ income and overall economic well-being.
